Upcoming Dates for Seniors

JOSTENS will be here during acceleration tomorrow!  We will meet in the bandroom.  WORK KEYS is TUESDAY!  If you haven't met with me to do your pregrid - you must do that ASAP on Monday.  FAFSA Opens on October 1st.  We will have a day where parents can come in and get help filing with me - date/time TBA.  Please see the recent blog post with FAFSA info and webinar for more information on how to file. ASVAB is on Thursday if you are interested! JOSTENS order day is Monday, October 7th.  Deposits will be due that day. END of the 1st 9 weeks is October 8th - check your grades and turn in missing work! FAFSA Video and Important Information

This is a new video from Alabama Possible to help with FAFSA Completion.  The first part is more for school staff.  If you fast forward to the 3.30" mark - you will begin the section on the FAFSA. https://youtu.be/LQbfXRZDglc?t=180 Don't forget that the window to begin the FAFSA starts Oct 1.  They will be looking at tax returns and assets from the 2018 tax year. FSA IDs Now is the time for your students to create their FSA IDs. By creating the FSA IDs now, you are preparing your students to complete the FAFSA when the portal opens on October 1. ACT PREP CAMP and Updated Scholarship Superscore Info - UM

1.         Montevallo will be hosting an  ACT Prep Camp  on October 5 from 8:30am-4:30pm. The cost is only $110 and students who receive free/reduced lunch can receive a 20% discount. Our school will be giving the ASVAB on October 3rd at 8:15 AM.  Students interested must sign the clipboard outside of Ms. Cochran's office.  Please see the information below! ASVAB CEP The  ASVAB CEP  is a complete career planning program. Students are given the opportunity to take the ASVAB at no cost and no commitment to military service. The ASVAB CEP also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian.  High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 and those enrolled at post-secondary institutions can participate in the ASVAB CEP. Students in 11th grade and beyond receive valid scores for enlistment. The ASVAB may be given in paper and pencil or computer adaptive forms. IMPORTANT: Creating FSA ID's and FAFSA Info

The following links will help you prepare for filing your FASFA in October.  Did you know that students in the state of Alabama left $60 million dollars unclaimed last year by not completing the FAFSA? 😳 We will have a FASFA day at school in early October where I can help you fill it out.  :)  Please go ahead and create your FSA ID's.  Parents and students both need one to electronically sign the FAFSA.  Please store this in a secure place where you can easily locate it.  Once it is created, it is needed every year when students refile.   The FAFSA now has a mobile app that you can download!  It is listed below. I have a set of ACT Flash Cards broken into subjects.  Please come by and sign out a set! We also have a new Fisk's Guide to Colleges to view in my office.  Don't forget the Ultimate Scholarship book is in there too!  Only two students have looked at them and that was when I mentioned that it was there.

UM Preview Day and New Program (part of OUTDOOR SCHOLARS)

Montevallo’s  Fall Preview Day will be Saturday, October 12 . Your can register for the event online at  www.montevallo.edu/previewday .   Our popular Outdoor Scholars Program recently announced the addition of an  archery team  for fall 2020. There are scholarships available for the archery team, along with students who are a part of our fishing team. Students can  apply online .

Drawing for Prizes at the Career Fair

**PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG TO YOUR SENIORS!** This year we will be having several door prizes given away at the end of the career fair. Each student will be given a card at the fair. They must visit at least 8 colleges/military recruiters AND at least 8 businesses. At each visit the representative will need to initial the student's card. As the students are leaving, they will need to place their card (with their name and school on it) in the box near the exit. At 11:25, we will draw out cards. If a student that came from 9:00-10:40 is drawn, I will deliver their prize to their school on Thursday.  If a students does not have the required 8 college and 8 business rep.  initials, their card will not be added to the drawing.

Barcode for the College and Career Fair

ALACRAO is pleased to announce that we are rolling into our second year of offering the  gotocollegefairs.com  barcode and scanner program for registration and data collection at our college fairs!!!!  YAY !
