UPDATES from Huntingdon (Criminal Justice, Dance line, Scholarships)

I want to take a moment to highlight some new and exciting things that are happening at Huntingdon this Fall!  Please pass this information along to your students as you see fit.

1. We've added a CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR- This major will provide career opportunities in federal, state, and local agencies, police departments, private security, law, victim advocacy, administration, parole and probation, teaching in prisons, counseling, criminal justice reform, and investigating.

2. We've added a DANCE LINE- The dance line joins the flag line and majorettes as the third element of the Marching Scarlet & Grey's auxiliaries. Dance line choreography will be a blend of dance genres, including jazz, ballet, precision/drill, and high kick. Candidates selected to be members of the dance line will possess a high level of dance talent, showmanship, and Huntingdon spirit, all of which are keys to the success of the Marching Scarlet & Grey.
Participation in Huntingdon's Marching Scarlet & Grey is free to the student. There is no fee, and uniforms and instruments are provided. Huntingdon's marching band is one of only a few NCAA-Division III bands that travel. Participants receive the Scarlet & Grey Band Award, worth $14,000 annually, or $56,000 over four years.
Dancers interested in receiving information about the Marching Scarlet & Grey dance line should contact auxiliary coordinator Amanda Glasscock (amanda.glasscock@hawks.huntingdon.edu) or Dr. Logan (rlogan@hawks.huntingdon.edu).
3. This year will mark our second incoming class of PRESIDENTIAL FELLOWS.  We had 25 Fellows in our inaugural class of Fall 2019 and we're ready to meet the new Fellows that will join us in Fall 2020.  Fellows agree to participate in one of 6 Academic Teams (Ability First Peer Support Team, Academic Mentoring Team, Forensics/Debate Team, Media Production/Social Media Team, Student Technology Support Team, and Undergraduate Science Research Team).  The time commitment is approximately 10 hours per week and, to  qualify, a student must have a 23 ACT and 3.0 GPA.  The Fellows scholarship is a $5,000 stackable award on top of their academic scholarship.  Because of the time commitment, the Presidential Fellows program is not open to students who participate in NCAA-III athletic teams, cheerleading, or band. Please help us identify any students you think would make good Fellows!
4. Don't forget we offer a Corporate Alliance Scholarship of $12,000 per year for any student whose parent works for Regions Bank, Baptist Health, Alfa, or Alabama Power.
5.  Local Counselors: We also still offer the River Region Grant $10,500 per year to any student who lives within a 45 mile radius of the college.
6.  Our acceptance rates to Medical School, Pharmacy School, all professional medical programs, and graduate schools remain exceptional
7.  Huntingdon Named among Top 5 Colleges in the Region Huntingdon College has been named among the best colleges and universities in the South by College Consensus, a college aggregator that uses student satisfaction as its benchmark.
According to College Consensus, “College Consensus is comprehensive. It’s not just one voice stating an opinion—it’s many, many voices, computed objectively and equally. The College Consensus method allows every institution, from the richest and best-known university to the smallest and hardest-working regional college, to demonstrate what they do best. Students who are actually there day to day have as much say about their college as experts who have never visited, making sure that all of those perspectives mean an even playing field for every college and university."

"Our students will tell you that what they love most about Huntingdon is the sense of family and community on campus," said West. "I believe that overall perspective is reflected in this ranking. Certainly, I know that faculty and staff work every day toward the credo, ‘the success of every student is the focus of everything we do.'”

8.  BOOKS ARE INCLUDED!!!

9. A LAPTOP computer is provided to every freshman student.

10.  Students will take a TRAVEL TRIP in the Senior year.  The cost of the trip is covered in regular tuition and fees.  Travel options for this year's Senior class are Prague, Vienna, Australia, Hawaii, and Ireland.

11. Our Fall Preview Days are Saturday, October 12 and Saturday, November 9.  The link to register online is www.huntingdon.edu/visit.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can help in any way and thank you again for all you do to help us recruit great students!
