Seniors interested in UM...Jim Harrell Poetry Prize

The Jim Harrell Poetry Prize University of Montevallo
First Place: One (1) $2,000 scholarship to UM
Second Place: One (1) $1,000 scholarship to UM
Eligibility: Alabama high school seniors or equivalent — including those in public, private, homeschooling or alternative education settings — who plan to attend the University of Montevallo
Guidelines:
  1. Each contestant should submit one (1) poem only, typed in a plain font on 8½ x 11-inch paper. Clear photocopies are acceptable.
  2. The poem should not be more than one hundred (100) lines long.
  3. The poet’s name, address or any other identifying attribute should not appear on the poem.
  4. A cover sheet should be included that lists the poet’s name, address, phone number, email, the name and signature of the guidance counselor or sponsoring teacher, the name of the high school (if applicable) and the title of the poem. The following statement should be included on the cover sheet with the poet’s signature: “I hereby certify that the poem (insert title) is my original work and that all rights to this poem are mine.”
  5. All submissions should be sent by mail to: The Jim Harrell Poetry Prize Dept. of English & Foreign Languages, Station 6420, University of Montevallo, Montevallo, Alabama 35115
  6. Entries must be postmarked by February 15. No late entries will be accepted.
  7. All entries will be recycled once the prize has been awarded. Do not send your only copy. No manuscripts will be returned.
  8. Scholarships may be applied toward tuition, fees and books during the first year’s enrollment at UM. No cash will change hands.
  9. Award is a one-time scholarship and may not be renewed.
 Judging: All entries will be judged anonymously by professionals in the field. Winners will be contacted by May 1.

Additional Auburn Admissions Information

The Auburn University fall 2021 admissions application is open! Here are a few things you should know: Auburn University has joined the Common Application. Auburn University launches the Common Application on Monday, August 17. (The Auburn University freshman admissions application opened on our website August 15). Our process is flexible. Applicants will receive a holistic review and be evaluated with the either a test score or another supplemental component. If applicants have tested and feel the score will be a positive supplement to their application, they may submit it as their supplemental document.
